B.A.R.K.

Ethno-digital folk music is a good description of B.A.R.K.’s music; a shortcut between the old and the new. Scandinavian folk music instruments like the mandola, Hardanger fiddle and jew’s harp share the sound waves with analogue drum machines and samplers, and out comes Scandinavian folk music in its digitised form; samples of the old Lapp woman’s voice echoes through the processor, and old songs from medieval times are brought back to life. See it as a form of recycled, contemporary folk music.

BlackThorn
In August 1993, the band was founded by Anders Clarhäll, Fredrik Jacobsson and Henrik Norbeck. All three of us had been playing with a band called O'Ryan's Belt, which had just split up.

B Nice Boys
This 5-man band (based in Stockholm, Sweden) has been playing together for some seven years. During this time they have deve-loped a timing and drive in their singing and instrumental work that has made them recognized, by many, as the best Bluegrass act playing in Sweden today.

The Caledonian pipe Band
CALEDONIAN PIPE BAND (The Sweden's youngest pipe band)  was formed in 1985. But it really started on October 11, 1976 when the Scotsman Alan Logan founded the Stockholm Piping Society.

Den Fule
Swedish folk music like you have never heard it before: heavy, raw and warmly disrespectful! Winner at the Swedish Grammy Awards for Best Folk Music Album of 1993.

Envisa
ENVISA is a Swedish vocal trio which sings a variety traditional Nordic folk music, such as mediaval ballads, lullabies, chorals, folktunes and even herding calls. The music is vocally based, which gives the traditional tunes a whole new dimension.

Ferneborg, Bertil Och Julia
Traditional Swedish folk music, played on two fiddles. Polskas, gånglåts, walzes, bridal marches, schottisches etc. Repertoary mostly from Western Dalarna. A more varied Swedish folk music program with fiddle, guitar and button accordeon as well as vocals.

Garmarna
It all began in 1990 when three youngsters from Sundsvall, Sweden - Gotte Ringqvist, Stefan Brisland-Ferner and Rickard Westman - went to see a performance of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Struck by the music (performed by a.o. Olov Johansson, nowadays in Väsen) as much as the play, the three decided to start a band the very next day.

Groupa

Gunnf Jauns Kapell
Gunnfjauns kapell has made three LP albums, one cassette and two CD:s. The latest - Naudljaus - was released in July 1995 at the legendary folk music festival in Bingsjö, Dalecarlia, Sweden. The albums have recieved great appreciation in many countries.

Harpolirarna
Harpolirarna is a group of about 10 people, who play folk music on 'nyckelharpa' (key-fiddle). We also have other instruments as violin, flute, guitar and bass. The group comes from the little town Eslöv in southern Sweden. Every week we play dance music for our folk dance team Ringsjögillet. Once a year we have 'Spelmansstämma' (music festival) in Billinge with a lot of key-fiddles.

Hedningarna
The release of "Karelia - Visa" followed by concerts in Scandinavia and a 3 weeks tour in USA. Hedningarna are playing live to a dance performance based on their music, made and performed by Flying Foot Forum in Mineapolis.

High On Grass
A Swedish bluegrass band. Take a look at our PHOTOS, listen to the SOUND-samples, take a look at our SCHEDULE and write or call us for more information about the band.

Hoven Droven
Hoven Droven is a provincial slang phrase which means "hullabaloo" or "whatever". Nevertheless, in the way Hoven Droven goes about it, it could just as well mean "that things will fall into place or take care of them- selves"; such is the case for this folk music band who performs with the attitude of a metal group.

Hulling
The group Hulling is formed by five musicians, Ola Hertzberg key-harp (nyckelharpa), Dan Sjöberg fiddle and hardinger fiddle,Jens Engelbrecht guitar and mandola, Patrik Lindberg percussion and jews-harp and Johanna Bölja on Vocals.

Jame's Gate

J.P. NYSTROMS
Early on, JP`s music was based on traditional northern Swedish pieces collected and noted down by members of the group, but later a broader range of folk music and compositions by the musicians themselves were included. A characteristic feature of folk musik from Norrbotten is its choice of instrument accompaniment, most typically with the harmonium.

Norrlatar
Anyone the least interested in contemporary Swedish folk musik should know about the group NORRLÅTAR. Since their foundation in 1974 they have been one of the leading groups in finding new means of expression and sounds within the field of traditional music. Their main source of inspiration is the old traditional music from the very north of Sweden, but their music is a spicy mixture of influences. You sense a breeze of eastern scents and memories from ancient times.

Skattiljunga Vagskal
The group takes it name from the roadcrossing, Skettiljunga. The crossing is used as a metaphor for the group members who originally hail from other musical traditions such as jazz and classic music. In Skettiljunga Vägskäl they use their instrumental knowledge to enhance, continue, and contribute to the tradition of Scanian folk music. The music is soft and smooth with a great flair that helpes you to visualize Scania , its beautiful fields, the rocky-strewn coast in the north, and the dark forests. Although there are influences in the music from the surroundings, Skettiljunga Vägskäl plays the music in the pure Scanian way.

Sodra Bergens Balalajkor (inf. Russas)

SBB's repertoire consists mainly of Russian folk music, both traditional music and newer pieces. We also perform Georgian and Ukrainian music and the works of composers.

Urban Turban
Urban Turban is not an Indian restaurant. Urban Turban is a Swedish bagpipe player and an old American blues man driving in a classic American car through the Arabian desert with Captain Beefheart in the backseat. Think of a group of cowboys who listened to teenbeat all their lives and now sit around a fire and play Jimi Hendrix's "Voodoo Child"; or think of a Arabic big band who listened to rai music and played "That's all right mama"...

Valramn
Valramn plays new and traditional folkmusic. A blend of Swedish traditional and contemporary folk music for both listening and dance.

Vasen
In 1994 a band called Nordman released their first CD, which featured Väsen along with the other more traditional Rock and Roll instruments. It was a huge success in Sweden, and Väsen toured with them twice, playing before audiences as large as 25,000 people.

Swedish Bagpipes
Though this is perhaps not common knowledge, even among Swedes, bagpiping has a long history in Sweden. There are several images of bagpipes and bagpipers in Swedish churches from the 14th century and onwards. So, at least the instrument has been known for a long time.
